Policies & Consent

In Nelson Equine's commitment to providing an outstanding and professional experience to all of our clients and out of consideration for our time, we have adopted the following policies:

PRIOR ARRIVAL TO YOUR HORSES' STAY
Please have your horses vaccines AND dewormed up to date. Please complete these no later than two weeks PRIOR to arrival to give their immune system time to bounce back.


LATE ARRIVAL POLICY
If you need to delay the agreed upon drop off date it is up to Leanne Nelson/Nelson Equine's discretion if your dates can be shifted, or if the horse will miss out on the days they should have been on site.

RETAINER FEE
The retainer fee to hold your horses' scheduled time at Nelson Equine is NOT refundable. It is up to Nelson Equine's discretion if dates can be shifted.

PAYMENT
Any retainer fee paid to reserve an appointment will be deducted from the final amount. During the stay, Nelson Equine may suggest additional services not included in the original estimated price. The owner reserves the right to decline additional services that may change the final price but understands that doing so forfeits potential benefits from those services.

All payments must be made in full to Brad or Leanne Nelson/Nelson Equine after the schedules stay and may be made via cash, PayPal, e-transfer, or check (for returning clients only). The balance must be paid in full prior to picking up your horse(s).

CANCELLATION POLICY
At Nelson Equine, the retainer fee is non-refundable. 

We value our time as well as yours, and last minute cancellations or no-shows cost us money. We are here not only to help your animals feel better, but also to make a living.
We understand that unexpected events occur in everyone's life. Brad and Leanne - Nelson Equine - may start requiring a paid in full balance PRIOR to any work being done.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND CONVERSATION
Discussions between Nelson Equine and the client are private and confidential.  We are happy to share our professional expertise but reserve the right to decline discussions of a political or private nature.

LIABILITY DISCLAIMER
Working with any animal involves inherent risk. The owner shall agree not to hold Brad and/or Leanne Nelson/Nelson Equine responsible for any injury or condition that may occur to their animal.   
Brad and/or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine - reserves the right to stop an appointment at any time if they feel their or the horse’s safety is in question &/or if the horse is not responding appropriately to the treatment.
 
EXISTING AND NEW MEDICAL CONDITIONS
The client is responsible for keeping Brad and/or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine - informed of any medical treatment, current medications, or changes in the animal’s health condition. If necessary, the client may be asked to obtain written permission from the veterinarian, chiropractor, physical therapist, or other health professionals that our services are safe to continue. 

VETERINARY DISCLAIMER 
[Chiropractic/Massage/Osteopathy/Bodywork/Farrier] is not a substitute for veterinary medicine and is not intended to be. It is a complementary form of health care. The owner is advised to consult a veterinarian before the animal receives [services] with any medical concerns or questions and/or to verify with the veterinarian that [services] are appropriate for the specific animal in question.
Brad or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine -  are NOT veterinarians. Therefore, they are not able to answer medical questions or diagnose or treat illness or disease. Any thoughts or perspectives shared during the discussion are opinions; always consult your veterinarian. 

                                      CONTRAINDICATIONS TO MASSAGE
The following is a list of situations that make massage inadvisable:

  • The horse has a temperature.
  • The horse has open or broken skin.
  • The horse has an injury that has not been seen by a veterinarian. If the vet thinks massage is OK after examining the horse, massage and alternative therapies can help the horse to heal faster.
  • The horse has a virus or disease- requires veterinarian approval.
  • The horse has cancer or tumors- requires veterinarian approval.
  • The horse has a skin condition such as a fungus that can be spread to others.
  • The horse has had 3-4 days between any vaccination and the day of appointment.

  • For any information that does not apply or is unnecessary, 'N/A' is sufficient. 
I understand that since there are many variables, it is difficult to predict the duration and frequency required for the recommended [farrier/massage/osteopathy/bodywork/reiki] procedures, and there is no guarantee to the outcome of the services provided by Brad and/or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine - *
I agree and consent to assessment and treatment for my horse. I understand that my and my equine’s personal and health information will be collected. I understand that all information that I provide will be kept confidential unless required by law. I understand and consent that my equine’s medical information may be shared by the various care providers involved in my equine’s care & treatment*
My horse is not under the care of a veterinarian for any reason that would contraindicate bodywork or farrier. I understand it is my responsibility to inform Brad and/or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine - of any changes that would make bodywork contraindicated for my horse.*
I understand that Brad and/or Leanne Nelson - Nelson Equine - may use photos and videos of my horse and any testimonials for marketing purposes. Names and faces will be removed to maintain privacy unless you request otherwise.*
